CITE (Community Integrated Training and Education) behavioral services are provided in the community where individuals learn, play and live. The services are based upon a philosophy of behavioral support that promotes self-determination through the enhancement of the individual’s quality of life within the school. The individualized programming promotes individual development, choice and decision-making, self-direction, self-management and opportunities for learning and self-fulfillment. The behavioral services also strive to facilitate positive relationships between individuals and the people with whom they live, learn, and play as well as supporting the creation of safeguards to protect the individual from harm to himself and/or others. The services include a thorough functional behavior assessment process which delineates the function(s) of the behavior(s) and provides the focus for the goal areas. Goal focused plans are then developed collaboratively which include programming and methods which incorporate best practice guidelines in regard to utilizing interventions that are the least intrusive and disruptive to the individuals. Specific interventions are chosen that will increase or maintain the demonstration of desired skill(s) or behavior(s). The plans include preventative, ecological, teaching, consequence, and maintenance interventions. The goal of the behavioral services is to enable the student to receive the behavioral and educational intervention and support so that the student can fully participate and be successful in meaningful school life. CITE staff provide the services by collaborating and working alongside of the school in the assessment, plan development and implementation phases in order to provide the school staff the tools and support they need to address their student’s behavioral and educational needs and to promote success and goal achievement.
