CITE Child & Parent Education and Intervention Services

The RHC Individualized Child and Parent Education and Intervention Services, which is offered as an extension of CITE (Community Integrated Training and Education) Services, assist families in meeting the goals they have for their children within their child’s natural setting. To do this, CITE Home-Based Services staff collaborates with families regarding how they want to help their child and then the RHC specialist will offer educational supports to assist them in this process.

The educational supports provided to the family can include assessment and program development individualized to meet the child’s needs in their natural environment, including behavior modification and support plan development services, providing education to families regarding their child’s diagnosis and learning needs, direct training for the family on how to teach new skills to their child, interactive guidance and support in carrying out programs to address skill development, and modeling and coaching educational strategies within the child’s natural activities. Through this direct work with the family and their child, the staff model and demonstrate techniques and strategies that can assist parents in developing the skills they need to meet the current and ongoing goals they have established for their child.  Typical skill areas that are addressed include behavior support, self-help skills, and communication skills.

While most of the services take place in the families’ homes, the staff are also available to accompany the family with their child into the community to provide training in community settings if requested.  Since the services focus on the requests and needs of each specific family, the type, frequency, and duration of the services is individualized and based on a person/family. Parents establish the goals they desire to have support to achieve.  These goals provide the framework for the services.  Since the service is designed to provide education to the family that will allow them to implement the plan-driven strategies on a day to day basis independently, the family is an integral part of the plan development and actively works with staff to develop programming in the desired areas.

Through this collaborative process, families watch their children make progress with the development of desired skills.  At the core of all services that are provided is the collaboration with the individuals and families.  Since families are the greatest natural resource available to their children and are the major providers of support, care, and training of their children living at home, our staff focus on family strengths, capabilities, preferences, and desires.  Each family is unique and can define its own needs.
