Student and Teacher Education and Intervention

CITE (Community Integrated Training and Education) Community-Based Services staff provides educational supports so that students with developmental disabilities gain knowledge, develop skills, and experience success in their learning and social environments.

The CITE team supports the school staff in promoting their students to  fully participate in their classes and in the school community.  The CITE staff works directly with the students and the teaching and school professionals to address student goals and challenges identified by the student’s IEP (Individualized Education Program) team.

CITE professionals  help students achieve their goals in academic, social, communication, behavioral, and personal management areas through the following services:

  • Educational and behavioral assessment and intervention plan development services,
  • Educational programming development support,
  • Educational intervention with students,
  • Formal and informal staff training,
  • Curriculum assessment and accommodations,
  • Activity/task modifications,
  • Assistive technology guidance, and Instructional and support tool development assistance.

When:  Services are  delivered during times identified by the school team when the support is most needed and the staff can provide the services requested.  For example, if a student is experiencing difficulty during a particular activity or class period, CITE staff will deliver services at those times in order to work towards the student becoming successful.

Where:  While most of the services take place in the school and classroom learning  environments, CITE staff is also available to provide educational support in the community  and in before/after school programs.

How Long: The length and frequency of services vary depending on the service plan developed collaboratively with the IEP team.  CITE staff provides support approximately twice a week to each student served.  If more intensive services are requested, CITE staff is available to provide that level of support over a period of time to quickly establish and implement with the team a successful intervention plan for the student.  The level and frequency of services decreases once a working plan is in place and the school staff are successfully implementing the plan without CITE staff direct involvement.  Decisions about the length, frequency, and duration of services are based on the collaboration  between the schools and CITE team.   Student and team progress and outcomes are regularly reviewed so the services are focused and faded as appropriate.

By Whom: CITE School –Based services are delivered by a professional educational team with extensive experience working with students with developmental disabilities.
